How we calculate

YardTakeoff is an independent collection of outdoor material planning tools for US homeowners. Each calculator publishes its arithmetic, a worked example, and the boundaries of the estimate. We do not claim professional engineering review.

Units and rounding

1 foot = 12 inches. 1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet. Gallons mean US gallons. Bulk volumes display two decimal places; the calculation retains full precision. Package quantities round up to a whole purchase unit. Keep extra precision when combining multiple sections.

Example values are not specifications

Dimensions, depths, coverage, yield and waste percentages are editable examples. Confirm product labels, your site design and supplier recommendations. Compaction is not automatically applied. No tool evaluates bearing capacity, drainage capacity, structural stability or local code compliance.

Costs

Prices start at zero. The calculators multiply only your entered prices and quantities. Zero means a price has not been provided, not that a project is free. Tax, delivery, equipment, permits and labor are excluded unless explicitly included by you.

Sources and maintenance

Where relevant, tool pages link to product and manufacturer estimating references. Geometry is calculated directly; coverage and yield come from the inputs you provide. Recheck the date and source for your product before ordering.

Corrections

If a result seems wrong, compare the visible worked example and formula with your measurements. Do not place an order until any discrepancy is resolved with your supplier. An owner contact channel is not yet available.
