How to calculate

Start with a rectangular perimeter, then subtract edges that your installation plan does not require you to restrain. The result assumes cut pieces can be reused.

Worked example

Length (ft): 16 · Width (ft): 12 · Unrestrained perimeter to exclude (ft): 0 · Length per piece (ft): 6 · Extra material (%): 10.

These inputs produce 11 edging pieces. Change the measurements above to match your project.

Before you order

Curves, separate runs, corners and offcuts can increase piece count. Spikes and fasteners are not included; use the manufacturer’s spacing.

For an irregular footprint, split the project into rectangles. Calculate each section and combine unrounded quantities before rounding the final order. Ask the supplier to confirm product yield and available package sizes.
